Wushu is
the generic term for Chinese Martial Arts, which is often refered to
as Kung Fu.
A competition for Modern Wushu was held during the 2008 Olympics,
in Beijing.
The Arts studied by this Association have the combined name of
Sui Yi Martial Arts, which was founded by the Chief instructor of the
East Midlands Wushu Association, Sifu John Read, a National Wushu Judge
for the BCCMA, they include: Shaolin Longfist, Sword, Long Staff,
Heart/Mind Boxing, Tai Chi, and more.
Sui Yi means "to find one's own way". This does not mean that
a student 'does their own thing'! In order to develop the mind, body
and spirit, a student must achieve a sense of pride yet humility, strength
yet softness and self awareness yet selflessness.
